Health Tips to Teach Kids About Staying Healthy-The Food Pyramid


This is an example of a food pyramidAdolescents need a strong foundation to start their "balanced" lifestyle with.  They need positive role models to show them how to live healthy lives by teaching them health tips like how to cook, and what to cook.  They need to know what healthy living is and how to make healthy living choices.  They need to learn how to follow a balanced lifestyle; this can include eating well, exercising, and taking care of their mental and emotional health as well as their physical health.  




They need to learn health tips!
Health Tips to keep your kids excited about eating well are:
  1. The first health tip I have come up with is teaching them about the food pyramid.  The food pyramid is a guide of each food group divided into sections to show the recommended intake for each food group and how much of each food group should be being eaten.  
  2. Making being healthy fun-There are fun ways to create a food pyramid for kids for your home.  You could look up an electronic food pyramid online.  Those are usually interactive and can help teach adolescents about what each food group means and can give them health tips about how to get the appropriate intake of each food group.  
  3. The last idea I have about the food pyramid is to have a food pyramid diagram in your house to remind your kids to always eat balanced meals and make healthy choices.  
  4. Another one of the health tips I have heard that you can teach your children is to get them to enjoy being outside and making healthy lifestyle choices.  A way of doing this is by teaching them about what a healthy lifestyle is.  Their lifestyle should have a purpose and a reason 



Adolescent's health is based directly on the people around them.  Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anyone else who is around the adolescents on a continuing basis is a factor into their lifestyle choices.  The adolescent's health is based upon the lifestyle choices and health tips they have been taught or have observed throughout their lives.  

Aspects that contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle include poor diet choices, crash diets, and media influences.  Adolescents are very susceptible to getting caught up in the unhealthy lifestyle that comes with disordered eating and could spiral out of control into an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia.  Adolescents learn by observation and creation of their own philosophies of their new found freedom of their bodies and how to work with or against their bodies.  If they work with their bodies, they can achieve a healthy, balanced lifestyle.  If they work against their bodies, then they will achieve low self-esteem and create unhealthy habits.
