Eating Healthy Doesn't Need To Be Expensive...and I'll Prove It!

Eating healthy doesn't need to be expensive, and I'll prove it to you! I went to the grocery store today and I was so peeved by how expensive a lot of the typical "health foods" were.   (Ex. Atkins and South Beach bars, Slim Quick system, and other similar products).  But, you don't need to eat those to stay healthy, in fact most of the time, just eating in a healthy manner is much better.

You can find fruits and vegetables on sale in bulk and if you don't need all of them right away, you can freeze them.  You can also look for deals in your local grocery store's weekly ad brochures.  But this is hard, I know that, because when you are running from school, to work, or sports practice the food that is the cheapest and most convenient is fast-food.  Maybe it is something you grab off the dollar menu at the drive-thru.  If we walk into the grocery store, the big signs are advertising chips on sale, or $5.99 frozen pizza specials.
I know that it is easy to walk in and pick up that $6 pizza and feed a family of 4, but I took a lap around the store and found that I also could buy 1 lb of sirloin steak (1/4 lb per person), 1 package of broccoli (3/4 of a stalk per person),  and 1/2 a pound of cherries (1/8 lb or 6 cherries per person) for dessert.  That is a much more balanced dinner and a healthy option for a family of 4.
It is hard to fight the temptation to buy the unhealthy options, but if you give in, and let yourself get unbalanced, then you won't feel as good after you finish eating it.  Eating all that oil and processed food will result in you being lethargic and not having as much energy.

If you are on the run and need to eat on the go, after you have eaten that Big Mac or the KFC fried chicken and gravy, you won't have the energy to continue on with your night.  If you can eat some carrot sticks or celery (which you can buy in bulk and then just throw into a zip-lock bag) and a Jif Peanut Butter To-Go as a snack and then a chicken panini or a cold-cut sandwich, then you will feel better about yourself and you will have the pep and ability to keep going all night long!
